Philippine based Cebu Pacific plans Manila Honolulu route

Philippines based, low cost carrier Cebu Pacific plans to launch a three times a week Manila to Honolulu Flight in the middle of 2015, according to Republic of the Philippines Department of Foreign Affairs.

Cebu Air Officials spoke with Philippine Consul General to Honolulu Gina A. Jamoralin on Nov. 18, and she said she hoped the new Flight would open up more opportunities for business and tourism trips for Filipinos and Americans, according to a release.

Airline Officials also met with local travel agents, Filipino community members and business groups, Honolulu International Airport officials and the Philippine Consulate.

The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration reinstated Cebu Pacific to Category 1 status earlier this year, allowing the carrier to fly to the U.S. The Honolulu route would be its second U.S. route after Guam.

Philippine Airlines is the only Airline with a direct, nonstop Flight from the Philippine capital to Hawaii. A search of flights on the Philippine Airlines website found the lowest fare of $602.80 for a one way, economy class ticket from Manila's Ninoy Aquino International Airport to Honolulu International Airport for the week of Jan. 5-11. A return trip from Jan. 18-24 found a low fare of $549.80.
Hawaiian Airlines started a direct flight from Manila to Honolulu in 2008 then stopped in 2013, citing high fuel prices and low Airfares.
